CLUB SERVICE
|
|
Club Service is the cornerstone of Rotary service. It is the service that makes the Rotary Wheel turn assuring that all club members work well together. It seeks to promote the spirit of fellowship in which every service should be
rendered.
|

Provide a steady steam of provocative meetings that provide members with a richer understanding of their community and their world.

Strengthen Rotary's ability to serve communities and the world by improving communications and training through the use of available technology.

Stimulate and educate the club on the constant need for new members. Provide quality Rotary Information and
New Member introduction to Rotary.

Create Awareness about Rotary and the club's service initiatives by contributing accurate, positive image of Rotary to various news media.

Enjoy fellowship and have fun at meetings and special events, such as the annual Christmas Party.

Conduct Fund Raisers, such as the
Halloween Ball and Madera County Fair Refreshment Booth, to support the community, youth and international projects.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE
|
|
Vocational Service deals with the pride in our profession and performing it in an upright and honorable manner. It emphasizes, primarily, the need for each Rotarian to fulfill his/her service in their daily relationships with fellow workers and
associates.

Club members and the public are made more cognizant of the importance of high ethical standards and
the 4-Way Test.

Club members are invited to bring co-workers to a club meeting during Vocational Awareness Month in October.

A local business will be selected from several candidates and presented
a "Business of the Year" award from the club for exemplifying
the "4-Way Test" through sound management, ethical dealings and community service.

One or more meetings during the year are held at local
business locations for Vocational Tours.

Business and Professional leaders in the community team up
with High School Students for a day of Job Shadowing.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
|
|
Community Service has been called the heartbeat of Rotary. Here, Rotarians can apply the Ideal of Service to their own neighborhoods.
|

Multiple $1,000 Scholarships awarded to Madera High School Students.

Madera Rotary Club Team walks in Relays for Life to raise awareness and money for the Cancer Society.

Madera's most unique Community Service Project kicked off in
2001. A "Drive Thru" Flu
Clinic for Seniors and "At Risk" people in the community
was held at the Madera Fairgrounds parking lot. The Madera Public
Health Department provided the professional team and vaccine and
Madera Rotarians volunteered to direct traffic, pass out literature and sign
up patients.

Partner with the Heartland Rotary Community Corps to
establish a mobile recycling center for the community.

Participate in the Operation Civic Pride by donating and planting trees along designated medians in the community. This program is made possible by the planning of the Madera Redevelopment Agency. The project is a joint effort of Rotarians and other church and civic groups in the community.

Partner with Madera Unified School District and The Madera
Parks and Recreation Department to establish school horticulture programs
for 5th and 6th grade students. Students learn about the environment and
plant gardens at their schools and community recreational areas. This is
partially funded by Rotary Foundation District Grant dollars.

The Annual Holiday Project
includes toys and Christmas gifts for needy families in Madera and a
blanket drive for the local United way.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
|
|
Through International Service, every Rotarian has a unique opportunity to work to ensure a more livable world. Rotarians, who represent a great pool of talent and experience in diverse fields, become part of a dynamic force untied to serve all mankind in the cause of world understanding, goodwill and peace.

The Madera Rotary Club received a matching grant from Rotary
International to support such humanitarian projects as the club's Bosnia
Relief Project., a craft school in Taiwan, Books for Honduras, assistance to
a Honduran AIDS orphanage, water project in the Philippines.
-
Rotarians accumulate textbooks, school supplies and paper materials for the Tegucigalpa School in Honduras as part of a District wide World Community Service project.

Madera Rotary hosts the Sister City Taiwan delegation for Lunch and Dinner as part of the I-Lan Project.

Contributions are made to the Wheelchair Foundation to give
mobility to people in need.

Contributions were made to the Shelter Box project to
provide relief for natural disasters, such as Katrina.

The club has hosted students from other countries for as
long as an academic school year to promote goodwill and understanding of
other cultures.

YOUTH SERVICE
|
|
No matter how ardently Rotarians pursue their good works in the local and world community, these efforts will recede into history unless young people are prepared to assume the mantle of leadership and service when their time comes.

Members participate in the selection of eight Madera High School juniors (four girls and four boys) to attend the Camp Royal leadership camp
each February.

The Rotary/Netherton Relays are organized each spring in conjunction with Rotarians and the local elementary schools. This community event is held to raise money for elementary school athletic programs.

The annual Rotary Speech Contest provides local high school students with an opportunity for competitive public speaking. Students have the chance to compete at club, area and district level for scholarship money.

Books are donated to the Madera Unified School District in
the name of each person who provides a program for the weekly Rotary
meetings.
